Kate Garraway: Myles Stephenson steps in as ‘big brother’ to kids amid husband’s battle

Good Morning Britain host Kate Garraway, 53, who has maintained a “close” relationship with Myles Stephenson since starring on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! together last year, has asked the Rak-Su singer to be a “big brother” to her children Darcey, 14, and Billy, ten while her sick husband Derek Draper remains in hospital. The singer revealed he spoke to the kids yesterday.

It comes after Myles spoke about how he has been around to help the family while Kate has been fighting for her sick husband, in an exclusive interview with The Sun.

The ITV star discussed: “It breaks my heart.

“I have such a close relationship with them all – including Derek,” he explained.

“Kate knows I am there for her at the drop of a dime – for her and the kids – anything she needs.”

Myles went on to add: “She has taken me up on the offer a few times, but I don’t really want to say what she’s asked for.

“It’s just about looking out for the kids and being a big brother to them.”

The reality star also shared: “It’s been very hard.

“All we can do is pray for Derek and pray for Kate and the kids as well.”

It comes after Myleene Klass, 42, who regularly presents Smooth Radio alongside Kate, spoke out about an “eye-opening” moment while addressing the GMB host’s struggles.

The pop star exclusively told Express.co.uk: “I’m now doing double radio shows but I’ve not been able to do my other jobs and modelling shoots and performances because those have now been paused. They are not allowed at the moment.

“So it hasn’t been an extra workload but it’s definitely been a real eye-opener to what other families are experiencing.”

Myleene went on to admit “there isn’t a day” where she isn’t thinking about Kate at the moment.

The radio presenter revealed: “There’s not a day I don’t sit in Kate’s chair and think about what she must be going through.

“I’m always in touch making sure she is okay.”

Myleene went on to reflect: “It’s very, very sobering at the same time.

“Because I can sit with my family at the dinner table but not everyone can. That’s a constant reminder.”

Derek is now free from coronavirus, but the virus attacked other parts of his body, leaving him to remain in intensive care.

Kate recently announced on social media that she will “never give up” on her partner, who was first rushed to hospital in March after contracting COVID-19.

While she took the opportunity to apologise to her fans for not being interactive online at the moment, she went to say how there is a “long road ahead”.

Kate married the former political adviser back in 2005.
